About
A Boutique Medical Spa
Young Health & Beauty is a boutique medical spa in the heart of Marin county. As primary care practitioners, we aim to provide healthcare guidance with a unique approach, integrating physical, psychological and spiritual well being. We believe that your inner health and beauty is what matters most, and we’re here to assist.
Our practice style is grounded in evidence—you're in charge, we help guide you with the science. The art of our practice is discovering together how best it fits you, your lifestyle and value system. It is our joy to accompany you on that journey. We know that feeling good happens on the inside and the outside, and we help with both, using innovative products and services. Meet with us and discover how we can help you!
Our Team
Tom Young, PhD, NP
Founder of Young Health & Beauty, Tom worked in a diversity of settings, he embraces patients from all walks of life. He has worked in San Francisco General Hospital’s Trauma Unit and witnessed many disfiguring accidents. He’s also worked in the HIV epidemic and with cancer patients, making him very aware of how devastating an illness can be on a person’s self-esteem. Yet he still believes that we’re all “perfect the way we are”. We never try to “force a procedure on a client,” and if we don’t have the expertise, we’ll refer you to our network of friends and colleagues. We want to earn your trust and if that means we work with you on finding the right fit other than us than that’s what we’ll do.
Tom opened Young Health & Beauty as a way to bridge his primary care practice and aesthetics as he’s treated a multitude of dermatologic conditions over the decades he’s been in practice. Tom also worked for over a 10-years in the pharmaceutical industry as a researcher/scientist. He’s astute on the evolution of science and technology and is a self-confessed nerd about all things in the lab but more importantly he returned to clinical work to translate research into practice. I “loved the academic and intellectual challenges of the lab, and the landscape of the pharma industry but connecting with people and hearing stories of their lives interests me.” He grew up in Hawaii, has 4 siblings he loves dearly, enjoys times with friends and is a devoted animal lover. He tries to be a “love cat” most days and feels that his furry and feathered friends remind him of humanity and the need to play daily. You may sometimes find his border collie Sean at the office or his jungle kitty, Dmitry, don’t worry for those of you allergic they have a “secret hiding place.” He also breeds parakeets, raises guinea pigs and has four fish tanks. He’s got his eye on a donkey next!
Joel S. Erickson, MD
I love what I do and I have a lot of fun doing it. Science and technology fascinate me, especially as they relate to human physiology. I appreciate being part of a profession that is on a quest to improve the human condition. My role within the medical profession is that of a “clinician”, a doctor who interprets numerous data inputs in order to allow an individual, or a family, the opportunity to make educated decisions about their health. My natural abilities, enhanced with thoroughly practiced skills, are in communicating with people. I listen and try to understand. Patients frequently thank me for taking the time to listen. I strive to help, whether through education, advice, or the offer of therapeutic action.
Vascular treatment procedures are part of what I do, and because the results bloom so quickly, this part of my work tends to bring me a joy that I can share with others. All aspects of my work are dependent on the knowledge and skills and sacrifice of those who came before me, yet they also each allow me an artistic expression with my own style. No wonder I feel so fortunate.
I have lived in California all of my life, initially in the East Bay (Oakland and Moraga), then, during college years, at Stanford. I lived in Los Angeles for two years before starting medical school at U.C. San Diego, where I stayed for 10 years of medical education. When I settled in Santa Rosa in 1989 I was the first fellowship-trained interventional cardiologist in the North Bay. For many years I was the highest volume operator of coronary artery procedures at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. In recent years I have taken less heart emergency call than in the past, while keeping my office practice busy and thriving, including with the 2006 addition of state-of-the-art venous disease diagnosis and treatment and the 2009 addition of brain artery ultrasound imaging to the practice.
I enjoy family life with my wife and three children. We have traveled to many exotic places. I like swimming and biking and hiking and gym workouts. Team sports entertain me, as does reading, especially history.
We offer free consultations and we are adept with insurance rules and regulations as they apply to varicose vein treatments. In a single one-hour visit at our Novato office, Dr. Erickson will evaluate your veins, including with ultrasound, and advise you, in writing, of the findings and of the cost of treatment and whether or not insurance will cover the treatment. It could not be easier!
